Most people will have encountered envelope stuffing
"opportunities" at some point. To a great many people,
it sounds like an ideal job: your "employer" supplies
you with materials and instructions, and you make some easy money.
I can summarize these opportunities in one word: scam!
Envelope stuffing opportunities claim to pay you a certain
amount of money for each envelope you stuff. Often times
it's somewhere between $1 and $3.
Keep in mind that there is no reason for anyone to pay you
for stuffing envelopes. There are plenty of people who can
be hired locally to stuff envelopes by the hour, for
minimum wage. There are also machines that can stuff
envelopes far faster (and economically) than any human.
So why would anyone pay you $1-3 per envelope?
The way the scam works is this: You are required to send
in money for your "materials". These materials consist of
envelopes and flyers/circulars advertising the same
envelope stuffing opportunity that you sent away for.
What you're supposed to do is put one of these flyers in
an envelope and mail it to some other poor soul ...
... Who would then hopefully also be scammed and send you
some money for the exact same materials!
In other words, you are marketing the exact same envelope
stuffing opportunity to others. You only get paid if others
are unfortunate enough to fall for the scam.
We all know the saying, "If it sounds too good to be true..."
