There's no right answer to this question. There are unlimited possibilities!
Try to brainstorm some home business ideas - don't be critical! Leave
that until later. Just write down anything that comes to mind. Once you
can't think of anything else, sit down with your list and try to narrow
down the choices to a select few. You want to try to match your skills to
your interests and then to the market.
- Is there a demand for the product you want to sell, and at the price you at which you
can offer it?
- Is there room in your chosen market for one more product?
- How will you distinguish yourself from your competitors? You have to give
people a reason for buying from YOU, rather than from your competitors.
- Can you make a profit at the price people are willing to pay for your product?
All of this type of questioning is an
important part of market research - something you will have to do once you've decided
what type of business you'd like to start.
Brainstorming home business ideas:
- Start a business related to your current line of work. Are you a secretary? Then
perhaps you can start your own typing or transcription service. Are you a programmer? Then
how about your own consulting firm specializing in database solutions?
- A niche market you've noticed that does not yet have a product or service to
satisfy that niche. Do you have the skills required to market to that niche?
- Specific interests or hobbies. For example, you may adore gardening. How
about becoming a landscaping consultant? Or if you love dogs, you could become a
pet-sitter or a dog-walker.
- A product or service you've searched for yourself, but isn't yet available.
If you want a product or service like this, then chances are someone else has also
wished such a thing existed.
One excellent product that sells well online is information, pure and
simple. People surf the web in search of information all the time; if you can
provide that information, many would willingly pay for it.
